Perfect score highlights second day of NRA National Championships Print E-mail

The second day of the NRA National Silhouette Championships at the Ridgway Rifle Club saw its first perfect score on Monday.

The second day of the NRA National Silhouette Championships saw a perfect score and competition finish just before rain began at the Ridgway Rifle Club Monday afternoon.
In the smallbore standard rifle, Agustin Sanchez Jr. of Riverside, Calif. had a perfect score of 40. William Motl of Porter, Texas was second overall with a 37 and Laura Goetsch of Whites Creek, Tenn., was third with a 37. Goetsch was also the top women's finisher.
In Master class, Cathy Winstead-Severin of Joplin, Mo. was the winner for the second day with a score of 37. Brian Wakefield of Smethport was second with a 37 and Joy Cox of Phoenix, Ariz. was third with 36. Derek Greenaway of Howard was fourth with a 36 and Jared Perry of Porterville, Calif. was fifth with a score 36.
Ben Marzella of Ridgway was sixth with a score of 35 and Matthew Everingham of Australia took seventh with a 35. Everingham was the top Junior shooter.
Kolby Rasmussen of Lavaca, Ark. was eighth with a 35 and Eric Boos of Little Rock, Wash. was ninth with a score of 34. Rasmussen was the best in the intermediate junior category. Nikki Kroll of Lowbar also finished with a 34 and was the top sub-junior finisher.
In AAA class, Jose Gonzalez of Mexico was the winner with a score of 36. Glenn Hughes of Birmingham, Ala. was second with a 33 and Carlos Moreno of Mexico was third with a 32. Hughes' score was the best in the Senior category. Walter Robertson of Fairview was fourth with a 32 and Mary Watkins of Merritt Island, Fla. was fifth with a score of 31. Jim Hebenstreit of Peoria, Ariz. took sixth with a score of 31 and William Taylor of Dalton took seventh with a mark of 30. Scott Lurie of Browntown, Va. was eighth with a 30 and B. Coates Watkins of Merritt Island, Fla. took ninth with a score of 30. Steve Bonson of Reedsville took 10th with a 30.
In AA class, Alice Styles of Australia was the winner with a score of 28. David Gillispie of Reedsville, W. Va., was second with a 28 and Grant Kien of Missoula, Mont. was third with a 28. Jorge Cigarroa of Laredo, Texas took fourth with a 27 and Kathryn Grigg of Shelby, N.C. was fifth with a 26. Scott Powers of Clifford, Ontario, Canada took sixth with a 26 and Kiyoshi Ishihara of Wilkes-Barre took seventh, he had a score of 25. Richard McBride of Erie was eighth with a score of 25 and Russell Wise of Independence, W. Va., took ninth with a 24.
William Stephens of Fairview won A class with a score of 26. Alberto Rivera of Mexico took second at 26 and Austin Bennett of Keyser, W. Va., took third with a 25. Harry Rayment of Olympia, Wash. took fourth with a 24 and Jose Suarez of Mexico was fifth with a 23. Bryson Mobley of Bozeman, Mont. was sixth with a 21.
In B class, Amanda Ruffner of McVeytown won with a score of 15. Carol Blackburn of Young Harris, Ga. took second with a score of 13 and Faye Rayment of Olympia, Wash. was third with a 12.
The smallbore hunting rifle competition also finished its second day of shooting. Winstead-Severin was the overall matchwinner for the second day with a 39. Sanchez, Jr. was second with a 38 and Greenaway was third overall with a 37.
Perry was the Master class winner for the second day with a 36. Mark Pharr of Round Rock, Texas was second with a 36 and Paul Davis of Vancouver, Wash. was third with a 35. Everingham was fourth with a 35 and Joy Cox of Phoenix, Ariz. was fifth with a 35. Everingham had the top Junior score.
Reann Wilson of Bozeman, Mont. took sixth with a 35 and Dennis Dadian of Clovis, Calif. was seventh with a 35. Wilson's score was the top intermediate junior score.
Boos took eighth with a 34 and Clifton Landry of Houston, Texas took ninth at 34. Landry's score was the best in the Senior category. Luke Johnson of Marysville was the top sub-junior finisher with a 30.
Mal Smith won AAA class with a score of 33. B. Coates Watkins took second with a 33 and Maxwell was third with 32. Scott Rindt of New Berlin, Wis. was fourth with 30 and Gerold B. Johnson of Duncannon was fifth with 29. Dann Suthern of Australia was sixth with 29 and Jose Gonzalez of Mexico was seventh with a 28. Rick Garman of Carlisle was eighth with 28 and Ernie Mellor of Scotland, Conn. was ninth with a 28.
In AA class, Gillispie was the winner with a 29. Cigarroa was second with a 29 and Tom Rains of Aurora, Colo. was third with a 29. Scott Powers was fourth with a 28 and Ishihara took fifth with a 28. Russell Wise was sixth with a 27 and Neal Sundberg of Endwell, W. Va., was seventh with 25. Austin Bennett was eighth with a 25 and Henry Lee of Ireland was ninth with a 24,
Clifton Bennett of Keyser, W. Va., won A class with a 24. Rachel Rayment of Olympia, Wash. had a 23 for second and Alberto Rivera of Mexico was third with a 21. Mobley was fourth with a 21 and William Stephens was fifth with 18.
Carol Blackburn won B class with a score of 13.
The smallbore competitions finish today at the Ridgway Rifle Club. The high power events start Thursday and go until Saturday.
