BRADFORD - A Kane artist will bring watercolors illustrating his trek from Florida to Pennsylvania to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford beginning Friday, Jan. 25. The work of Dennis A. Driscoll will be featured in an exhibition called “The Boundless Journey: Paintings and Poems,” on display through Feb. 29 in the KOA Art Gallery in Blaisdell Hall. The exhibition is free and open to the public. This show replaces the previously announced Zig Zag Zig. Driscoll will give a gallery talk from noon to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Webb/Bradford Forest Rehearsal Hall in Blaisdell Hall, followed by a reception in the KOA Electronics Lobby in Blaisdell Hall. The exhibit will showcase about nine large-scale watercolors and seven “intimate” poems. These are part of a recently published book, “To a Passer-by,” which combines the two art forms. Also on display will be about 11 other watercolor paintings. Driscoll took several trips over the course of 10 years to compile artwork for his unbound, single-sheet, fold-and-cut publication. He traveled to Washington, D.C., in 1979. He also journeyed to Florida and then to the Pennsylvania-New York region. “Driscoll’s watercolor paintings reveal the poetic feeling of the landscape which he has traveled,” said Kong Ho, associate professor of art. The artist, a Vietnam veteran, got his start in art as a senior in high school. After getting a degree in art from Edinboro University, he became an art teacher in the Kane Area School District, where he taught for 30 years. But Driscoll isn’t just used to the high school scene. He’s also a familiar face to some students at Pitt-Bradford, where he taught a painting class last summer. In addition, he shared his new book last November with an audience at the Warren Hospice House. “I think this exhibition will be a unique experience to our students and visitors if they enjoy art and poem,” Ho said. Visitors can view the artwork 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday. The gallery is closed Saturdays and Sundays.
