• Environmental education and interpretation programs that were scheduled for Jan. 20, 2008 at Parker Dam State Park have been cancelled.  The Ice Fishing Basics program, scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Environmental Education Classroom, and the Tea and Talk program, scheduled for 4 p.m. in the same location, will not be held.  The next Ice Fishing Basics program will be held during the annual Winter Family Festival on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at 11 a.m.  The next Tea and Talk program will be Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 at 4 p.m. in the Environmental Education Classroom.
• There will be country music at the Fox Township Community Center on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 6:30 - 10 p.m.

• The Evangelical Covenant Church of Ridgway will host a Prayer and Praise Service for Christian Unity on Sunday Jan. 20, at 3:30 p.m.  The praise will be led by the local Christian Group "Malachi".  Prayers for our churches, our communities, and our world will be offered.  Everyone is welcome.  You may call 814-772-2162 for more information.

• The Community Nurses Bereaved Parents Support Group will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at their St. Marys office. If you have lost a young child, an adolescent, or an adult child, you are invited to attend these informative and comforting meetings. This support group meeting will help to understand the many feelings you are experiencing. No reservation is needed.

• The Elk Cameron Right to Life is sponsoring a bus to the March for Life in Washington DC, which takes place on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008. The bus will leave the St. Joseph Benedictine Convent parking lot on Maurus St. in St. Marys on Tuesday at 4:15 a.m. There will be a breakfast stop enroute.
This march is a peaceful protest in support of a culture for life in America.
The bus will leave Washington for the return trip at 4:30 p.m. with one stop for dinner on the way back. Participants will be responsible for their own food expenses throughout the trip. • There will be a curriculum meeting of the Johnsonburg Area School Board of Directors on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in the high school information center. A discussion will be held on a change in the high school schedule. The public is encouraged to attend.

• The next MS Self-Help Group meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. at the LIFT office in St. Marys. Missy Straub will be providing a short presentation on the benefits of massage therapy for people with MS. The public is encouraged to attend this presentation.

• The Elk County Board of Elections will meet in conference room #2 of the Courthouse Annex on Jan. 23 at 9:30 a.m. for the purpose of approving a polling place change for the April 22, 2008 Primary Election.

• The Johnsonburg Borough Council will be holding a special meeting Thursday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. in council chambers, 100 Main Street, Johnsonburg. This meeting is being held to discuss U.S. 219.

• The Ridgway Eagles Club is having their tenth annual Frank Clark Memorial Plastic-tip Dart Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 26. The public is invited to attend. The first two events will be Coed Chicago style Luck of the draw (301, 501, and cricket are played) and a Women’s Singles tournament. They will start at 1:30 p.m. Sign-ups will be from Noon until 1 p.m. There will be a coed cricket luck of the draw that will start in the afternoon. This will start no earlier than 3:30.

• Do you like to ice skate? If so, the members of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church are planning an ince skating trip to Callahan’s Indoor Skate Park in Bradford on Saturday, Feb. 2. The fee for the trip includes two hours of skating and pizza, pop and snacks. The bus will be departing from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church parking lot at 11:45 a.m. and will be returning at approximately 3:30 p.m. This event is open to any age but children 10 and under are to be accompanied by an adult. Reservations must be made by Jan. 31. Please call 772-1953 to make a reservation.

• Bendigo State Park is going to have its second annual Snowfest on Saturday, Feb. 2. They are planning on having several events including snow box and sled races, snowman building contests, snowshoeing basics, cross country skiing, winter survival demonstrations, and possibly a chili cook off. If anyone is interested in helping, please call 965-2646.

• The Johnsonburg Area School Board of Directors will hold a budget workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. in the high school information center.

• A soup, sandwich and dessert luncheon will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgway. Take-outs will be available. Anyone with questions can call 772-1953, Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

• A Washington D.C. Cherry Blossom Spring Getaway is planned for Wednesday, April 9. Pick-up will be at the Ridgway Hi-Rise. There is a fee for the ticket, which includes the tip, however the meal is not included in the fee. Reservations can be made by calling 773-3278. Deadline for reservations is Jan. 24.

• Do you want to get in shape for the new year? Then join the members of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church to “Walk For Fitness, Fun and Fellowship.” The group will meet Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. and Friday mornings from 9 - 10 a.m. Sessions will begin Friday, Jan. 18. The gtroup will be exercising to walking videos, which is a low-impact way to exercise. There is no fee to participate. Anyone with questions should call 772-1953 Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

• Helpmates Hospice Bereavement Support Group will meet the third Tuesday of every month from 6-7 p.m. in the second floor conference room at the Udarbe Complex, 225 South St. Ridgway. For more information, please call 772-7473.

• The Ridgway Wrestling Club will be meeting at Aiello’s Cafe on the first and third Monday of each month at 8 p.m.

• Christian Life Ministries Women’s group will have a meeting every Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ridgway YMCA. They promote fitness, confidence and character mentorship. For information, call 772-4265.

• Ridgway Home Care will be providing blood pressure checks at Rite Aid Pharmacy on Tuesdays from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m.

• Bendigo State Park has snowshoes in a variety of sizes that can be checked out of the office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for short hikes through the park. Bring your valid Pa. driver’s license. If you are interested please call the park office to reserve your shoes. Shoes will be on a first come first serve basis. There must be sufficient snow covering the park.
