Two Elk County bridges on Route 949 set to open fully on Friday

Photo by Joseph Bell – While two bridges on state Route 949 will open fully on Friday, Oct. 19, Spring Creek Bridge, shown here, remains under construction.

With deck replacement work complete, PennDOT plans to fully open two Elk County bridges on Friday, Oct. 19. Making the repairs will keep the bridges in service for years to come. Both bridges are located on Route 949 near Portland Mills. The bridges are about 500 feet apart, with one spanning Toby Creek and one spanning the railroad. Traffic has been controlled at the bridges by temporary signals. Once both lanes are opened on the bridges, PennDOT will turn the signals off and remove them.
