Two big innings doom Ramettes in loss to ECC

May 12, 2011

Johnsonburg starting pitcher Kiana Myers prepares to unleash a pitch Thursday in the Ramettes' 12-1 six-inning loss to rival Elk County Catholic.

JOHNSONBURG – Poor fielding in the infield led to two game-changing innings en route to a 12-1 six-inning defeat Thursday against rival Elk County Catholic.
Johnsonburg allowed four runs in the fourth inning and five more in the sixth inning and could not make up the deficit.
Down only 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning, the Ramettes allowed nine batters to come to the plate.
An infield single from Michelle Imbrogno started things off and an error at third base allowed Jessie McLaughin to get onboard safely. A single from Jessie Ginther loaded the bases before Hannah McGowan hit a single to plate Imbrogno and McLaughlin for the 4-1 lead. Anna Hawkins followed with a single of her own to score Ginther.
After consecutive flyouts to Justis Myers at shortstop, starting pitcher Taylor Schlimm stroked a single to left field to bring in McGowan. Jena Struble tapped a flyout to Taylor Harvey at first base to end the inning.
ECC added another run in the top of the fifth inning but sent 10 more batters to the plate in the top of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
Lyndsey Trumbull reached first base on an error and came around to score on a triple to deep left field by Schlimm for the 8-1 lead. After Struble was given a free pass from Johnsonburg starting pitcher Kiana Myers, Imbrogno tagged a two-run double to plate courtesy runner Sam Smith and Struble for the 10-1 advantage.
Ginther then added a single to bring in Imbrogno and McGowan hit a liner to center field to score McLaughin. Kiana Myers was able to retire the next three batters to end the inning.
An error at first base allowed ECC to score the game's first run in the top of the first inning as McGowan crossed home plate for the 1-0 lead.
Consecutive Lady Crusader errors allowed Harvey and Paige DeCecchis to reach safely and after advancing to scoring position on a Kassa Kocjancic groundout, Lydia Hefright singled to bring in Harvey to tie the game at 1-1. Schlimm struck out Katie Galsick and got Brittany Watts to flyout to right field to minimize the damage.
An error at shortstop in the top of the third inning allowed Ginther to cross home plate for the 2-1 lead.
Hefright was 2-for-2 on the day with an RBI while Justis and Kiana Myers both tallied singles for the home team.
Schlimm set down the last seven batters she faced and was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a triple. She was complemented by McGowan who went 3-for-4, scored twice and had three RBI. Imbrogno was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI.
