Truck tire pull new event at the Elk County Fair

August 8, 2012

KERSEY – The Elk County Fair is featuring a new event this year, as a "street truck tire pull" event will debut at the fairgrounds in Kersey.
"I was at a fair in Albion [N.Y.] and people come off the streets with their pickup trucks and try to pull this weight behind them," said Merv Kemmer, fair manager.
In Albion, N.Y., the event was quite popular and Kemmer hopes to replicate that popularity in Kersey.
"They received a good turnout [in Albion]," Kemmer said. "We have large industrial tires [on the Al Dietz Memorial Track] and it's going to be a fun night to see how it works out."
The hitch on the truck can be no more than 19 inches off the ground. There is no entry fee. The weight pulled will depend on the size of the truck, engine, and horsepower.
The weight involved could range anywhere from 500 pounds to at least one ton.
For instance, a truck could be connected to a 500-pound tire; after progressing so far, the 500-pound tire will be attached to more weight as the pull becomes more difficult.
"It'll be a fun to night to enjoy and we're hoping it works out," Kemmer said.
The event is scheduled to start Thursday at 7 p.m. The kids' power wheels race is also scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m., according to the fair schedule.
