Trinity Church in Ridgway welcomes new pastor

The Trinity United Methodist Church has been led by new pastor, Rev. Roger A. Peterson since early July.
Peterson is from Jamestown, N.Y., a community where Lucille Ball grew up. Peterson has been ministering for over 30 years. He is a 1975 graduate of Houghton College and a 1980 graduate of the Asbury Theological Seminary. He hasn’t always worked with a general audience like he does at Trinity church.
“When I was in high school I thought I would be an elementary school teacher,” Peterson said. “I always had a sense of working with children and teaching, but I came into the realm of Christian education.”
Peterson was ordained an inter-generational pastor in 1980, and since then he has been reaching a wide audience. “I am a general minister and right now I don’t relate to certain groups specifically,” said Peterson. “However, one of the things I believe is I am here to provide a continuity of pastors.”
Peterson has been with churches in areas like Lewis Run, Pa., Seneca, N.Y., Venango County, Pa., Indiana, Pa. and Somerset, Pa.
Peterson is getting established with anticipation and is excited about enjoying the great outdoors of Ridgway. “I look forward to being in Ridgway and enjoying the bike trail,” Peterson said. “I also have enjoyed getting to know the downtown businesses; people have been really great.”
