Pennsylvania state Senator Jim Ferlo announced in April of this year his desire to enact legislation that would put a moratorium on shale gas drilling in Pennsylvania. The proposed moratorium would last three years and would ban the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] from issuing new drilling permits and would also disallow drilling at sites where permits have already been granted where drilling has not yet begun.
