Ben Thompson has earned a spot in the District 2 Jazz Band. As a sophomore, Ben finished eighth out of the 30 students who auditioned for the eight alto saxophone spots in the band. The auditions were held at Youngsville Area High School on the evening of Nov. 17. Any high school band member in grades 10-12 in Elk, Mckean, Potter, Cameron, Warren, Erie and Crawford County are eligible to audition for this band and only the very best show up to audition. His placement in the alto saxophone section is quite an accomplishment as a sophomore. Ben's placement will mean that he will represent Ridgway during the Pennsylvania Music Educator's District 2 Jazz Festival to be hosted by Otto-Eldred Area High School. Ms. Amber Webster, OEHS Band Director, will be the festival coordinator. The students who earned a place in the festival are divided into four separate Jazz bands based their individual audition score. The directors for the four bands will be Mr. Ralph Guzzi, Mr. Robert Harris, Mr. Scott DiTullio and Mr. David Kana. The four bands will perform a joint concert in the afternoon on Saturday, Feb. 18 in the auditorium of Otto-Eldred Area High School. The concert is open to the public with an admission fee.
