Thomas L. Schneider
Thomas L. Schneider, 91, of 117 Hill Road, St. Marys, died Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness.He was born Jan. 15, 1921 in St. Marys, son of the late Leo and Anna Mertz Schneider. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Parochial School. He was a retired employee of Airco Speer, retiring in 1983 after 45 years of service.On July 31, 1948 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Elizabeth J. “Betty” Struble, who preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1997.Mr. Schneider was a member of the St. Mary’s Church; was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, serving in the Philippines; and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, furniture making, gardening, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Ronald) Heindl of St. Marys, and Cindy (Kenneth) Prechtl of Daguscahonda; two sons, Dan Schneider and Tom (Shelly) Schneider, both of St. Marys; 11 grandchildren, Kenneth Heindl, Kristy Castina, Wendy Miller, Stacy Kifer, Pam Goodliff, Kelly DiNardo, Barbara Miles, Cory Calla, Jennifer Quiggle, Tom Schneider and Brittany Schneider; 14 great-grandchildren, Brent Prechtl, Ryan Merritt, Gage Goodliff, Carter Miller, Jake Kifer, Nick DiNardo, Nathan DiNardo, Kiersten Schloder, Jessica Kifer, Kali Smith, Brianna Quiggle, Michaela Quiggle, Mallory Goodliff and Allison Heindl; two sisters, Orma McKeon of St. Marys and Elizabeth “Betty” Struble of Erie; and four brothers, Richard Schneider of St. Marys, John (Joanne) Schneider of St. Marys, Theodore Schneider of Kersey, and Timothy (Wanda) Schneider of St. Marys.Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Neilson; three sisters, Margaret Sadley Carpenter, Marion Roberts and Dolores Arnold; and by a brother, William Schneider.A Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas L. Schneider will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson OSB, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
