Stephen A. Metro

Stephen A. Metro, age 85, of Julia Street, Johnsonburg, died Monday, March 26, 2012 at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 4, 1926 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Angelo and Nora (Foster) Metro.
On Sept. 17, 1949, he married Carol Ann (Jenkins); she preceded him in death Jan. 24, 1994.
A U.S. Marine veteran having served during World War II, he worked for Clearwater Tool & Die while in California and as a custodian for Johnsonburg schools, retiring in 1997.
He was Greek Orthodox Catholic by faith. He enjoyed raising and racing pigeons, hunting, fishing, gardening, and beekeeping. He was born and raised in Johnsonburg, lived in California from 1960 to 1984 when he returned to Johnsonburg.
He is survived by four children, Sharon Ponte-Corvo of Smethport, Carole Ann Williams of Colorado, Cheryl Willis of Johnsonburg, and Lori Gasbarre, also of Johnsonburg. Twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife; one son, Scott S. Metro; one brother, Andy Metro; and one sister, Marilyn Halquist.
There will be no visitation. Private services will be held at the family's convenience. The family suggests memorials to Community Nurses, Inc.
