St. Marys Legion holds on to beat Wilcox 8-6, Wilcox loses suspended game to Fox

ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Legion baseball team ran their record to 12-1 on the season with an 8-6 victory over the Wilcox Legion Wednesday night at Berwind Park.
St. Marys outhit Wilcox by a 15-12 margin. For St. Marys, Ryan Uhl had a double and three singles, while Kevin Hoy had a double and two singles. Ricky Pearsall had three singles, while Luke Daghir had two singles. Ben Daghir, Jordan Weinzierl and Eric Wehler each had a single.
For Wilcox, Jesse Reynolds, Mitchell Holmberg and Joe Holmberg each had a double and a single. Quinn Luhr had two singles and Cole Peterson, Zac Luhr and Frank Kocjancic all singled.
Ben Daghir went the distance on the mound for St. Marys, giving up 12 hits, walking two and striking out five.
Wilcox went down in order in the top of the first inning. In the home half of the inning, Pearsall led off with a single. He stole second. Ben Daghir singled, sending Pearsall to third. A double by Hoy scored both Pearsall and Daghir. Uhl singled. Weinzierl reached base on an error, sending Uhl to third. Uhl was able to score on an infield out, giving St. Marys the 3-0 lead.
Wilcox scored a run in the top of the second when Joe Holmberg doubled and stole third. He scored on a single by Quinn Luhr, making the score 3-1. St. Marys left a man on base in their half of the inning.
The third inning found Wilcox scoring three times in the top of the inning. Peterson and Reynolds both singled to start the inning. Mitchell Holmberg reached base on an error to load the bases. Peterson scored on an infield out. A single by Joe Holmberg scored both Reynolds and Holmberg to give Wilcox the 4-3 lead. In the home half of the inning, Hoy and Uhl singled. Weinzierl followed with a single. Wehler walked. A single by Luke Daghir scored both Uhl and Weinzierl, giving St. Marys the 5-4 lead.
Both teams went down in order in the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth, Reynolds doubled and Mitchell Holmberg singled. With one out, Reynolds scored on an infield out to tie the game at 5-all. St. Marys left two men stranded in their half of the inning.
Wilcox left two runners on base in the sixth inning. Pearsall led off the home half of the inning with a single. Ben Daghir walked. A single by Hoy scored Pearsall. A double by Uhl scored Daghir. Hoy scored on an infield out to give St. Marys the 8-5 lead.
Wilcox scored a run in the top of the seventh when Mitchell Holmberg doubled. A single by Josh Mitchell scored Holmberg, making the final score 8-6 in favor of St. Marys.
Wilcox will travel to Smethport tonight for a 6 p.m. game.Wilcox lost 12-11 in 10 innings to Fox Township in the conclusion of the suspended game from Saturday.
