Area residents and friends are set to gather Aug. 6-7 at the Ridgway Firemen's Lot for the 8th Annual St. Leo's Summer Festival.
The event will feature bingo on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 1-4 p.m., followed by a chicken barbecue open at 5 p.m. until food is sold out. The Kids Playland features new rides this year and will be open from 1-7 p.m.
The event also will have a new band performing this year as Green Eggs, a group from Lancaster, are scheduled to perform from 6-10 p.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 7, car show registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by the Polka Mass at 10 a.m. The Mass is followed by a 90-minute performance from the Friday Niters Polka Band from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Elvis (Bob Calla) will perform from 1-3 p.m., followed by Sammy Slicker & The Blackjacks from 4-7 p.m.
The booths, open at noon on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday, are to feature various goodies, including stromboli, funnel cakes, soda, legal beverages, french fries, wings, hamburger, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chicken barbecue, nachos, and games for both children and adults.
Patrons also can enter the drawings with a chance to win $11,000 in cash prizes.
"It's just a great community event, a great fundraiser for the church," said Sue Klase, who along with husband Chris, are co-chairpersons for the event. "It helps with general upkeep of the church, and even though we recently had an extremely generous donation to have the church redone, we still most certainly need money to help pay for heating costs, utilities-- the funds that come in really help with the day-to-day operations of the church.
"With food, games and prizes, there is really something for everyone there this weekend, something for the whole family to enjoy."
