Shirley (Ross) Gerg

Shirley (Ross) Gerg, 84, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 121 Parkway Rd., St. Marys, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 29, 1927 in Hicks Run, daughter of the late Patrick and Mildred Ford Ross.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1946. She served as the cafeteria manager at the Elk County Catholic High School from 1975 to 2001 and had been a co-owner of the Olympic Bar and Restaurant in St. Marys.
On May 6, 1950 in the Sacred Heart Church, she married Edwin G. Gerg, who preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 2003.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church where she was a former member of the Church Choir, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
She is survived by five daughters, Nancy (Dennis Sr.) Wilson of St. Marys, Lisa (Darrell) Silkensen of Central Point, Ore., Joanne (Aaron) Straub of St. Marys, Marcia (Mitchell) Wolfe of Danville, Calif., and Diane Imbrogno and her fiancé Dan Jordan of Kane; five sons, Patrick (Rita) Gerg of Weedville, Douglas (Mary) Gerg of St. Marys, Bernard (Valerie) Gerg of St. Marys, Paul (Diane) Gerg of Strongsville, Ohio, and James Gerg (Kathie Renaud) of St. Marys; 24 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Carolyn (Henry) Cowan of DuBois and Marlene Thomas of Reading; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ross of Escondido, Calif.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Mazzaferro; a brother, Patrick Ross; a grandson, Brandon Gerg; and a granddaughter, Anne Wilson.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley (Ross) Gerg will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, pastor of Sacred Heart Church.
Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
