Shirley Mae Nedza-McNulty, 63, of DuBois, died suddenly on Monday, April 30, 2012 at DRMC.
She was born May 2, 1948 in DuBois, daughter of Catherine (Narvey) Nedza and the late George Nedza.
She worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years and was one of the first paramedics in the area. Most recently, she served as funeral home supervisor for the Ubel Funeral Home in Johnsonburg, where she worked with her nephew Joseph M. Nedza since 2005, along with assisting her family at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield and The Leo Nedza Funeral Homes of DuBois and Sykesville.
She was a graduate of DuBois Area High School, Class of 1966; Clearfield Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1969; Penn State University, Class of 1999, with a Liberal Arts degree; and a graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, Class of 2002, as a licensed funeral director.
She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in DuBois. She was also an organist for numerous local churches and an advocate for local youth tennis programs.
In addition to her mother, Catherine (Narvey) Nedza of DuBois, she is survived by her longtime companion, John W. "Cinders" McNulty of DuBois; four sons, Bruce A. (Amy) Aunkst IIIÂ of Virginia, J. Rob (Gretchen) Snider of DuBois, Daniel E. (Jessica) Snider of DuBois, and Patrick J. McNulty of DuBois; two grandchildren, Ayden Snider and Noah Snider; three siblings, John Nedza and his wife Patricia of DuBois, Leo Nedza and his wife Suzie of DuBois, and Mrs. Jerome (Carlene) Duttry of DuBois; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bruce Aunkst Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Mae Nedza-McNulty will take place on Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in DuBois, with Fr. David Foradori officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Michaelâ€™s Catholic Church Cemetery in DuBois.
Visitation will be held at The Leo Nedza Funeral Home in DuBois on Friday, May 4, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and also on Saturday, May 5, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Â
Memorials, if desired, may be made to DuBois Area High School Tennis or the H.U.G.S. for Kids program at DRMC Hospice.
