School district establishes guidelines for cell phones
JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Area School District recently approved a policy to establish guidelines limiting district employees' use of personal wireless devices.“This includes any wireless device of a personal nature that is brought into the workplace, largely cell phones,” said superintendent Dr. Walter Fitch. “We have to make sure work and the students' safety is not compromised as employees are on their cell phones while they should be watching students or doing their work which they are getting paid for.“The board recognizes that the presence of personal electronic devices, especially cell phones, has become common place and that their use during the work hours for the purpose of personal communication is sometimes necessary. This policy is intended to establish guidelines on the presence and use of those personal devices by district employees during the course of the workday.”According to policy No. 711, personal cell phones may be used to text or make brief calls which are necessary for personal communications. These calls or texts shall be made or received during periods of non-assignment.
