School District adopts tax resolution

August 8, 2012

The Ridgway Area School District Board of Directors approved a resolution to place a referendum question on the ballot of the November general election that would eliminate the occupation tax during a special meeting Tuesday night.
The school district held a public meeting April 18 seeking the public's opinion on the Act 130 tax resolution that permits school districts to repeal its existing occupation tax and replace the lost revenue by increasing the existing earned income tax.
According to Finance Manager Brent Rhoads the district must raise the earned income tax by .4 percent to 1.4 percent to offset the loss of revenues from the elimination of the occupation tax.
