Samuel T. "Tom" Mills Sr

Samuel T. "Tom" Mills Sr., 87, of Snyder Memorial Personal Care Home, Marienville, formerly of 190 East Ave., Johnsonburg, died on Feb. 10, 2011 at the Snyder Memorial Personal Care Home, following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 29, 1923, in Johnsonburg, son of the late John A. and Helena M. Ames Mills.
He married Mary Kathleen Bowley on Nov. 15, 1945 in St. Anne's Church, Wilcox, who preceded him in death on July 25, 2007.
He resided in Johnnsonburg his entire life. He graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1942 and attended fire training school. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Church, Sacred Heart League and Johnsonburg Senior Center. He was also a member of East End Hose Company and later Johnsonburg Fire Department, where he was fire chief for two years and assistant fire chief for many years. He was a part-time electrician and loved woodworking as a hobby.
He was a WWII Army Veteran serving overseas as a Tech. Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. He was employed by NY & PA Co./Penntech Papers as a machinist for 42 years retiring in 1988 and Shaut Bros. Bus Lines for two years and he also worked briefly at East Branch Dam.
He is survived by four daughters, Barbara, Mrs. Duane Duffy of Johnsonburg, Mary K. "Cathy", Mrs. Ron King of Johnsonburg, Jean, Mrs. James Hart of Wilcox and Christine Jovenitti of Wilcox; two sons, Samuel T. Mills Jr. and his wife Anna of Salem, VA, and John D. Mills and his wife Elizabeth "Bessie" of Birmingham, Ala.; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Richard Mills; two sisters, Delores and Patricia Kolinoski.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Samuel T. "Tom" Mills will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Monday morning at 9:15 a.m.
