The Women Who Care, a project of the Elk County Community Foundation recently awarded a grant to the Salvation Army in Ridgway for $3,000. This marks the second year the Salvation Army has received support from The Women Who Care.
“This year we were awarded $3,000 to serve our energy assistance program,” said Captain Scott Harvey of the Salvation Army. “Last year they gave us a grant for our King's Table program.”
The Salvation Army approached the Women Who Care because of their support in the past.
“They supported us last year, so we went back in hopes they would again,” Harvey said. “It is a huge amount for the Salvation Army to receive in this area. It makes me feel there are people here who care and respect the mission, and join in partnership to help our neighbors and friends and show them God’s love.”
The Salvation Army provides financial aid through the energy assistance program to those in Elk County who are struggling with a gas and electric shut-off notice.
“This program helps our children, families and seniors,” Harvey said. “It keeps the lights, heat and stove on, and keeps them warm in the winter.”
