Robert F. Weidert

Robert F. Weidert, 89, of 620 N. Maple Ave., Ridgway died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 29, 1923 in Ridgway, son of the late Francis O. and Clara [Buehler] Weidert. He married Yvonne M. [Bonnie] Rees on Aug. 6, 1960, she preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1995. He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Bob was a graduate of the St. Leo High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He had been employed as a locomotive engineer by the Pennsy, Conrail and Penn Central, retiring after 43 years of service.
He is survived by one brother, John F. Weidert of Burgettstown; two nieces, Diane Morris and her husband Steve of Austin, Texas and Mary Brunner of Florida; three nephews, William Weidert of Ft. Myers, Fla., Robert F. Weidert and his wife Mimi of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla. and Joseph Brunner of Ridgway; one sister-in-law, Mrs. William [Mary] Weidert of Austin, Texas; best friend Laurie Jones of Ridgway; and his three loyal dogs.
Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor C. Brunner and one brother, William F. Weidert.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert F. Weidert will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with Military Honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be Fr. Brian E. Vossler, pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Leo Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Memorials if desired can be made to St. Leo School at 111 Depot St., Ridgway, PA 15853. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home.
