The Rising Stars 16U boys traveled to Orlando, Fla. to compete in the 2011 Division II AAU Nationals from July 25-30.
Current Ridgway basketball players Eric Matheson and Sam Roselli were part of this AAU team.
There were a total of 114 teams throughout the country competing for the Division II national title. As one of only three teams representing the state of Pennsylvania, the Stars did not disappoint. They finished the tournament with a 2-1 pool record which was good for second place. They beat Duluth Elite from Georgia by eight points and the Orlando Suns from Florida by 11 points. They lost a close game to Loudoun Triple Threat Gold of Virginia by three points, the eventual pool play champions. A second-place finish propelled the Stars into the championship bracket and keeping their hopes alive for winning a national title. In the first round of the championship bracket, they lost to the Winchester Eagles from Virginia by 13 points. This loss moved the Stars to the first round consolation bracket. In their opening game, they beat the J-Town Warriors from Tennessee by 20 points. That win put them into the Elite 8 of the first round consolation bracket with a chance to finish as high as 11th. They lost another close game to the Syracuse Nets from New York by two points. That ended a great run for the national championship with a finish in the top 25 of the 114 teams competing.
