The Ridgway YMCA will be hosting a âMini Groove for a Cureâ event on Friday, Sept. 30 from 6-7:30 p.m.
"Since the Ridgway YMCA became an Activate America YMCA, each year we like to do something to give back to the community," said Mary Lynne Bellotti, executive director of the Ridgway YMCA. "In the past we have done such things as 'Coats for a Cause,' collected eye glasses for overseas and when Julie Lang came to me with this event I thought it would be something that we would love to host."
Julie Lang and Chris Gilmore are both licensed ZUMBA instructors for the YMCA and they will be putting on the event.
"We have a lot planned," Lang said. "Itâs going to be an hour and a half of fun."
There is a cost of $5, for members and nonmembers, and all monies collected will be given back at the breast cancer awareness event held at the St. Marys Area High School on Oct. 15.
"When I decided to take part in the 'Groove for a Cure Zumbathon,' I thought how great it would be to be able to donate additional money to the event through a mini event of our own, and better yet all monies will be kept in our own community to help fund breast cancer services at Elk Regional Health Center," Bellotti said. "Itâs a great way to give back to the community because all funds collected will stay right here."
