Ridgway Junior League softball All-Stars host St. Marys

The Ridgway softball 13-and 14-year-old All-Stars lost 7-3 to St. Marys in action Thursday at the Ridgway Little League fields located along Grant Road.
St. Marys took the lead in the first inning. The St. Marys All-Stars were designated as the visiting team and Jackie Lenze led off the game with a single. Lenze would eventually score the game's first run on a wild pitch. Rachel Stauffer walked with one out and would score on a Ridgway throwing error to make the lead 2-0 for St. Marys after half an inning.
St. Marys would retain that 2-0 lead until the third inning when the St. Marys all-stars added another run with a 2-out rally. Brittany Geitner singled and Stauffer walked. Pinch runner Sydnie Stauffer, running for Geitner, scored on a Ridgway throwing error to make the lead 3-0.
Ridgway put a dent in the scoreboard in the home half of the third inning. Megan Kucenski was hit by a pitch with one out and Jenni Thomas singled. After a ridgway pinch runner was tagged out on the bases, Emily Spiers walked. Thomas went to advance to third and the throw to try and record an out on the bases was wide, allowing Thomas to score. Spiers ran to second on the play and the throw to get Spiers out went into center field as she came all the way around for Ridgway's second run to make the score 3-2 after three innings.
In the fourth, Carli Schneider walked with one out and would later come around to score on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 4-2.
St. Marys added a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Abbey Bauer led off the inning with a single. After two flyouts, Rachel Stauffer singled and Bauer came around to score from third. Rachel Stauffer went to second on a stolen base and third on a throwing error, then scored on a single from Hayley DaCanal to push the advantage to 6-2.
Ridgway scored a run in the fifth as Thomas reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a St. Marys error.
In the seventh inning, Sydnie Stauffer singled and then went to steal second base. The throw to cut down the runner went into center field as Stauffer came around to score St. Marys' seventh run.
Bauer had six strikeouts for St. Marys as the starting pitcher. Ridgway starting pitcher Taylor Roseto had nine strikeouts on the mound.
Thomas was 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead Ridgway. Rachel Stauffer and Sydnie Stauffer each had two runs scored for St. Marys.
St. Marys will play DuBois on Saturday at 4 p.m. Ridgway will play Punxsutawney also at 4 p.m. Saturday. Sites are to be determined for both games.
