Ridgway junior league all-stars host St. Marys

Alex Dattoli fouls a pitch off for the Ridgway junior league all-stars during action Tuesday against St. Marys.

The St. Marys junior league all-stars advanced in the District 10 tournament with a 12-6 victory over Ridgway Tuesday night at the Ridgway Little League fields along Grant Road.
Nate DaCanal and Joe Nasoni both opened the game by being hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Ross Brennen doubled both runners home for the game's first two runs. Brennen would later cross the plate as Dalton Bauer grounded out to first.
St. Marys opened up more distance in the third inning with a 6-run outburst. Nasoni singled between shortstop and third base to lead off the third. Brennen hit into a fielder's choice to center. Nasoni was thrown out at second on the play. Bauer then launched a 2-run home run to right field to extend the St. Marys lead to 5-0. DJ Mertz walked after the home run and Kyle Williams singled. Austin Wolfel just missed a home run for St. Marys as he would double off the top of the fence to bring Mertz around for a 6-0 lead. Nasoni hit a bloop single between second base and right field which scored Williams for a 7-0 lead. St. Marys would add two more runs for a 9-0 lead entering the bottom of the third.
In the fourth inning, Brennen reached on an infield single. With Brennen at third later in the inning, Bauer legged out an infield single, diving headfirst into first base to beat out the throw. Williams also notched an RBI single in the inning to score pinch runner Brady Bauer for an 11-0 lead.
With Ridgway staring down the 10-run rule in the fifth, the junior league all-stars fought back with a 4-run effort. Ross Zameroski and Drew Baumgratz led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Alex Dattoli followed with a single of his own to score Zameroski for Ridgway's first run of the game. Luke Hoffman would reach on a St. Marys error to load the bases once again. After a flyout and a fielder's choice, Ben Ames would keep Ridgway's chances alive with a 2-run single to score Dattoli and Hoffman and make the margin 11-3. Jeremy Breier then reached base on a St. Marys error which scored Oknefski.
Brennen singled to lead off the sixth inning and went to second on a Ridgway error. Dalton Bauer reached on another Ridgway error which plated Brennen.
Josh Raubenstrauch singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and Baumgratz singled for his second hit of the game. After a flyout, Luke Hoffman reached on a St. Marys error which allowed Raubenstrauch to cross the plate and move Baumgratz to third. Turner Amacher grounded out to second for an RBI as Baumgratz crossed the plate.
Baumgratz and Dattoli each had two hits for Ridgway while Hoffman, Ames, Breier and Zameroski each had one.
Brennen finished 3 for 3 with two RBI and four runs scored for St. Marys. Williams also had three hits with one RBI and two stolen bases for St. Marys. Dalton Bauer and Wolfel each had two hits for St. Marys.
The Ridgway junior league all-stars finished 2-2 in tournament play this season. Ridgway won 11-1 over Punxsutawney on July 3 and 5-1 at Brockway on July 8.
