Under new management, the Ridgway Elks Lodge No. 872 at 201 South Mill Ave. has undergone significant changes in an effort to become more community active.
"We are trying to move forward in a new direction and bring it back to the way it was like from 2001 to 2006," said J.R. Geitner, who recently retook the position as general manager.
Between the Ridgway YMCA, Ridgway Public Library, and other organizations within the community, the Elks Lodge donates about $10,000-$12,000 per year.
As part of Geitner's new role as general manager he has revamped the menu from hamburgers, french fries and chicken wings to an extensive menu that offers a large variety of sandwiches and meals.
"They really had no menu here before," Geitner said.
The Lodge now caters for bridal showers and other special events.
"As a matter of fact, I had my wedding here a year ago in August and that was the first wedding here in 30 years," Geitner said. "What we are going to do here is just reinforce what we did here years ago, as far as with community activity, fundraisers, donations and the sponsoring of different benefits."
Recently membership at the Lodge has increased by 30 percent and Geitner notes that they are always on the lookout for more members.
