Ridgway Elkers capture junior varsity tourney crown

Photo by Jim Mulcahy – The Ridgway Elkers junior varsity basketball team defeated the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a 57-39 score last night to claim the ECCHS Boys Junior Varsity Basketball Tournament championship.

ST. MARYS – The Ridgway Elkers captured the ECCHS Boys’ Junior Varsity Basketball Holiday Tournament Wednesday night by defeating Elk County Catholic by 57-39 score in a game played in the ECCHS main gym.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch defeated the Johnsonburg Rams 36-29 in the consolation game.
Championship game
The championship game saw both teams score 13 first quarter points. The Elkers outscored the Crusaders by a 16-6 margin to open a 29-19 halftime lead.
The third period found the Elkers outscoring the Crusaders 14-10. In the final quarter Ridgway outscored Elk Catholic 14-10 to win the game 57-39.
