The Ridgway boys golf team continued its strong play in the early season with a 41-stroke margin of victory, 214-255, over visiting St. Marys in action Thursday afternoon at Laurel Mill Golf Course.
Matt Aiello of Ridgway was the medalist for the day with a low score of 40 for the Elkers. Teammate Jesse Reynolds was second with a 41.
“I can’t say enough about Matt Aiello and Jesse Reynolds,” Ridgway coach Dave Zawatski said. “Matt played in one match last year as a sophomore and Jesse missed all of last season. This was the first match they qualified for this season and they played in the seventh and eighth slot [Thursday]. I have a feeling they both may be in the lineup for some time to come. The coaches were looking for someone to step up and they did just that.”
Aaron Sorge had a 43 and Eric Matheson carded a 44 for the Elkers. Jordan Lundin rounded out the top five for Ridgway with a 46.
Josh Mitchell and T.J. Schlimm both recorded 48s for Ridgway while Mitchell Gilmore finished with a 50.
Sam Miller had the top score for St. Marys with a 47. Owen Schreiber had a 49 and Justin Beimel carded a 50. Quinn Cunningham scored a 51 and Shane Haberberger finished at 58 to round out the top five.
In other scores for St. Marys, Bob Watts carded a 59 and Rudy Gleixner finished at 60. D.J. Challingsworth had a 62.
Ridgway (3-0) is scheduled to host Brockway at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
