Ridgway golf won its season opener 202-230 over Brockway Thursday at Laurel Mill Golf Course.
Mitchell Stark of Ridgway was the medalist with a score of 38. Mitchell Gilmore was one stroke behind after carding a 39.
"It was nice to get the first match out of the way," Ridgway coach Dave Zawatski said. "I can't say enough about the way freshman Mitchell Stark and Mitchell Gilmore played." Â
Josh Roselli finished with a 40 and Josh Mitchell ended up with a 42. Jesse Reynolds, Matt Aiello and Jake Klawuhn each carded a 43 as Ridgway's fifth-best score. T.J. Schlimm finished with a 44.
For Brockway, Cody Jose had the team's best score with a 44. Alec Bouch was next with a 46 as did Dausen Crawford. Brett Carr, Sam Hawkins and Darren Olivio each finished with a 47 for Brockway's last two qualifying scores. Devon Park had a 52 and Corey Carr finished with a 59 in other scores for the Rovers.
"The other players all struggled in one area or another," Zawatski said. "However, the most impressive thing that I took out of this first match was the way they put their struggles aside and congratulated the guys who did play well. We don't have a per se No. 1 man or even a No. 8 man (Mitchell Stark). We have 10-plus players who can play the game at a very high level, and that is a lot of fun to coach. Those who didn't play their best Thursday will be there ready to step up come Monday."
Morgan Eckenroth had a 42 and Dakota Dworsky finished with a 45 in JV action. Â
Ridgway is scheduled to host DuBois Central Catholic at 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon at Laurel Mill Golf Course.
"We look forward to improving our team score on Monday when we host DCC," Zawatski said.
