Ridgway baseball recognized with banquet

Ridgway baseball recognized the team with a banquet Monday at Sandy Beach Recreational Park after the Elkers' game with St. Marys.
Ridgway varsity baseball head coach Mark Morelli recognized seniors Ryan McClelland and Jay Launer for their efforts with the team.
"We appreciate everything you've done," Morelli said. "We certainly wish you well in your future plans."
JoJo Jaques was the winner of the scholar-athlete award.
"A lot of schools look at people and their grades," Morelli said. "You got to keep your grades up."
Morelli expressed appreciation to the booster club for a new batting cage at Motion Control.
"That's been a huge help as far as practice," Morelli said.
Morelli announced the team will be going to the playoffs which begin next week.
"We feel we can do well in the playoffs if we get two things out of these kids, effort and commitment," Morelli said. "I'm really happy the school district has seen the potential and has enough confidence to let us in the playoffs."
Morelli recognized assistant coaches Joe Luchs, Joe LaBenne, Dan Johnson and Mike Lynch for their help this season.
"They're a knowledgeable group that has been around baseball all their lives," Morelli said. "They've been successful in baseball all their lives. They're trying to convey their knowledge that they learned along the way."
Morelli expressed appreciation to athletic director Manny Barbazzeni for his help this season and named the letter winners as well.
