Ridgway’s culture inspires hand-crafted sign

October 8, 2011

Ridgway’s wood and chainsaw carving culture runs deep through the area. It was the inspiration for the signage of the newest addition to Ridgway’s retail shops. Country Squirrel Outfitters located along Main Street where Love’s Canoes previously was has a six foot wide and seven foot high sign in the works for their store front.
The Heritage Council had given shop owners, Steve and Miranda (Neville) Putt a grant towards the sign.
“We were really excited when we got the grant for the sign,” Miranda said.
Putt said further that the design of the sign was inspired by Ridgway’s heritage.
“It fits perfectly in all different aspects,” he said. “The wood—the heritage of the Ridgway area ties in as well as the artists from the Chainsaw Rendezvous—it just kind of seemed to fit.”
The couple recently moved from Colorado where they were actively involved in a wide array of outdoor hobbies. They decided to bring their adventures here to Ridgway so they could be closer to where they are originally from, which is Bedford.
“We were looking to move back East,” Miranda said. “Then we found online that Love’s Canoes was for sale, and things just came together.”
The store will provide both sales and rentals on cross-country skis, bike, canoes and kayaks. The retail aspect of the store will have things for camping, hiking, rock climbing, fishing, and hunting and pretty much anything you do outside. Putt says something particular that Country Squirrel Outfitters will carry are the Cannondale bike line.
