Rendezvous recap

March 5, 2012

The 13th annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous recently came to a close.
The streets of Ridgway look empty without the surplus of carvers and visitors fulfilling the downtown. This year there were reportedly 195 carvers in attendance representing nine countries including England, Germany, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Canada, the United States, Scotland and Romania.
The new location of the event raised many concerns in citizens and officials, but Liz Boni, coordinator of the Rendezvous, said it ended a success.
“The event went very well, and we were pleased with the new location,” Boni said. “I just want to acknowledge all those who contributed and helped to make the event successful.”
The relocation was due to a decrease in space.
“There are 30 percent new carvers each year; that is consistent,” Boni said. “The industrial space just didn’t have enough room.”
A big step was to do it downtown, but essentially it enveloped the community.
“You could see people everywhere, and it was incredible to see that many people in downtown Ridgway,” Boni said. “We are hoping that will happen again.”
Others are excited about the possibilities of growth for the event downtown.
“It gives room to grow and accommodate,” Michelle Bogacki, Main Street Manager said. “The businesses did very well, and the Rendezvous was very successful.”

The new location seems to be better for all. It makes better access for everyone including handicapped and more opportunity for our local merchants... Yes to downtown.
