Rams spoil ECC season opener

December 12, 2012

Cole Peterson, 12, of the Rams, hits a jumper during the first half of last night's game against Elk County Catholic played at the ECCHS gym. Peterson finished the night with eight points.

The Johnsonburg Rams spoiled the season opener for the Elk County Catholic Crusader basketball team with a 47-37 victory Tuesday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Rams were able to take advantage of two runs in the first quarter which moved them out to a 14-6 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
After the Crusaders had taken the early 4-0 lead, the Rams came back on a 8-0 run to make the score 8-4. They outscored Elk 6-2 the rest of the quarter making the score 14-6.
"Johnsonburg has a good team and they are well-coached," said ECCHS coach Aaron Straub.
"One of our objectives was not to let them on any runs and we didn't do that well," said Straub.
"I am proud of the way the kids battled. They battled very well. We knew we would give up some perimeter points. I thought our defensive plan was good we just didn't shoot the ball well early," said Straub.
