JOHNSONBURG – The Ramettes used two big innings Monday to surge past the visiting Lady Elkers in an 8-3 victory at Knothole Recreational Park.
Deadlocked in a 2-2 game, the Ramettes exploded for three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and another three in the sixth inning to secure the victory.
Tied 2-2, Tommi Wildnauer stroked a one-out single to score Elena Solorio to take a 3-2 lead. After a walk to Dani Jo Dwyer, Kassa Kocjancic strolled home on a bases loaded walk to Kiana Myers for the 4-2 lead. Justis Myers also followed suit with a walk as Wildnauer tapped the plate for a 5-2 advantage.
The Lady Elkers were able to score a run to cut the lead to 5-3 in the top of the fifth inning on an error at shortstop as Breezy Mazur scored.
After both teams were held scoreless in the next inning, the Ramettes scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away.
After a groundout to open the inning, Dwyer reached on an error in right field on a routine flyball. After Kiana Myers walked, Justis Myers reached on an error at shortstop as Dwyer scored for the 6-3 lead. Brittany Watts then tagged a single to score Kiana Myers and Taylor Harvey hit a drive to deep center field for the sacrifice fly to plate Justis Myers to take an 8-3 lead.
Paige DeCecchis retired the side in the top of the seventh inning for the complete game victory.
Ridgway opened the scoring with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a sacrifice fly by Ashley Viglione to plate Jenna Hoffman, who took a free pass from DeCecchis, who gave up just four walks on the day.
The Ramettes responded with a run in the home half of the first inning as Kiana Myers stroked a run-scoring single to plate Tommi Wildnauer, who got things started with a leadoff single to center field.
Ridgway got a bloop single from Sydney Kovalyak and a walk to Jill Gaio to start a rally in the top of the second inning. With two aboard, Jenni Thomas hit a single down the right field line to bring in Sydney Kovalyak for a 2-1 lead. After a walk to put Melissa Wehler on, a groundout by Hoffman caught Gaio at home for the out and Brianna Stenta followed with a foulout to third baseman Kassa Kocjancic.
The Ramettes were set down in order in the bottom of the second inning and back-to-back Lady Elker singles were followed by consecutive strikeouts by DeCecchis in the top of the third inning to end the threat.
The Ramettes would knot the game at 2-all in the bottom of the third inning as Dwyer trotted home on a passed ball. Dwyer was caught in a rundown but a high throw from catcher Sydney Kovalyak brought the game-tying run through. After Justis Myers walked, Watts struck out to end the inning.
Despite the miscue, Sydney Kovalyak was one of Ridgway's offensive leaders as she finished 3-for-4 and scored a run; Stenta's 2-for-4 showing was highlighted by two doubles. Thomas was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
For the victors, Wildnauer was 2-for-4, scored twice and knocked in a run. She was complemented by Kiana Myers, who had a timely single in the bottom of the fourth inning for what turned out to be the game-winner. She also walked three times as did Dwyer, who also scored twice in the game.
