Ramettes overcome sluggish start to top DCC

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Ramettes (13-5) were on the wrong end of a 9-0 start Wednesday night before righting the ship in time for a come-from-behind 33-28 win against visiting DuBois Central Catholic (8-10).The Ramettes used a 10-2 run late in the second quarter to take a 20-17 lead to the locker room. Late game theatrics, however, nearly cost Johnsonburg the game.Junior Kathryn Polaski started of the third quarter with a 3-pointer in what was otherwise a frustrating eight minutes for both teams shooting from the field. The next basket was scored by Johnsonburg senior Brittany Watts, whose short jumper with 4:46 on the clock gave the home team a 25-17 lead. DCC would regroup with a 3-pointer from Aundrea Snyder, whose 11 points led all scorers, to cut the lead to 25-20. Johnsonburg junior Kassa Kocjancic later came up with a steal and fed the ball to senior Rhianon Fowler for the easy layup and a 27-20 lead going into the fourth quarter.Shooting woes continued for both teams in the fourth quarter as the Lady Cardinals scratched their way back into the game. Kylee Schaffer hit a free throw roughly a minute into the final stanza to cut the lead to just six points. Despite leading all scorers, Snyder also shined on defense as well as she came up with a timely steal and strolled in for an uncontested layup with 4:33 to play, trimming the lead to 27-23.
