Members of the Johnsonburg girls basketball team celebrate Wednesday night after the varsity team's 47-44 win over visiting Elk County Catholic. It was head coach Mike Zilkofski's first win against ECC at the varsity level.

JOHNSONBURG – The monkey is finally off Mike Zilkofski's back.
Now in his eighth season as head coach of the Johnsonburg girls varsity basketball team, Zilkofski was on the winning side against Elk County Catholic for the first time in his career after Wednesday night's 47-44 victory in Johnsonburg.
The Ramettes had three players in double digits; Kassa Kocjancic scored 17 points, including an impressive 11 for 12 from the foul line; she was complemented by Brittany Watts with 14 points and Chelsea Benson with 10. Taylor DaCanal paced all scorers with 18 points for ECC. Macy Neureiter followed with 14 points, highlighted by two 3-pointers.
"I told the girls at the beginning of the year that with the talent that we have, we have the ability to do something special," Zilkofski said. "This is the first time in my career that we've beat ECC and my hat is off to our players. We knew at the beginning of the year that the teams we needed to beat were St. Marys and ECC, and we took them off the list."
