JOHNSONBURG – Bradford girls basketball was able to outscore Johnsonburg 12-3 in the fourth quarter to take a 62-53 win Monday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Johnsonburg was able to play even with the defending District 9 Class AAA champions who were 24-1 last season and undefeated in the regular season. The two teams were tied at 50 after three quarters.
"I told the girls in the locker room, 'I'm proud of the way they played.' That's a triple-A school, undefeated last year. We battled with them," Johnsonburg coach Mike Zilkofski said. "Overall, I give them an A for what they did, for being against Bradford and them being undefeated last year and only losing one girl. The effort they gave, you can't say any more."
Bradford scored the first two points of the fourth quarter as Payton Ambrose went for a layup and a 52-50 Lady Owls lead. After Bradford missed three straight free throws, senior guard Kaserra Owens would add a basket to extend the Lady Owls' lead to four at 54-50. Owens would lead Bradford with 23 points.
