February 22, 2013

Members of the Johnsonburg Ramettes celebrate with head coach Mike Zilkofski, center, following the team's 39-32 win over the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders in a District 9 Class A quarterfinal contest on Thursday at ECCHS.

The Johnsonburg Ramettes gave up an early lead, but then used a strong second half to defeat the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders 39-32 in a District 9 Class A quarterfinal playoff game on Thursday evening at Elk County Catholic High School. The win guaranteed the Ramettes a spot in the PIAA Class A state playoffs and eliminated the Lady Crusaders.
"It's been a long time since the Ramettes have been down there (at Clarion University), 20-some years since the Ramettes have been to the state playoffs, so this is big for the girls and really big for me," said Johnsonburg head coach Mike Zilkofski. "I've been coaching for eight years and that was my thing for a successful season-- get these girls on the floor in Clarion or in the state playoffs-- and it came true tonight."
