Police probe continuing in 'freak' fatal accident in Kane

May 18, 2012

The Kane Borough Police Department is continuing to investigate a “freak” accident that claimed the life of a 52-year-old Kane man.
Dale Ostrander of 129 Lincoln Ave., Kane, sustained fatal injuries in the accident Tuesday morning near the employee entrance at the rear of Kane Community Hospital.
Ostrander was a long-time hospital employee.
Police said the victim was fatally injured when he was pinned against an exterior wall by a pickup truck. The unoccupied truck was left "idling" and for some unknown reason moved forward and hit a picnic table near the employee entrance, police said.
The victim tried to escape, but was pinned by the picnic table that was pushed by the moving truck, police said.
The truck driver-- a worker for the Asplundh Tree Expert company-- has been identified by police as Douglas Neal, also 52, of Brockport.
No charges have been filed against the truck driver at this time, police said.
The victim was treated in the emergency room at Kane Community Hospital before he was flown by medical helicopter to the Hamot Medical Center in Erie, police said. The victim died Tuesday afternoon, police said.
