Pauline W. Olson

Pauline W. Olson, 86, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 580 Wolfel Ave., St. Marys, died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 20, 1926, in Altoona, daughter of the late Albert A. and Trescenna Laino Weidmann.
She had resided in St. Marys since 1954. She was a graduate of Altoona High School, Class of 1944, and was a graduate of Mount Aloysius College. She received her MT degree from Montifiore Hospital School of Medical Technology and attended post graduate school in radiology. She had worked for Dr. Harvey Thorpe, an ophthalmologist in Pittsburgh.
On October 23, 1954, in Altoona, she married William E. Olson, and he preceded her in death on March 18, 1978.
Mrs. Olson was a member of the St. Mary's Church. She had served on St. Marys Borough Council for eight years, six of those years as president. She was formerly the Executive Director of the St. Marys Area United Way. She was a former member of the Board of the American Red Cross. She was a charter member of Keystone Tall Tree Girl Scout Council and a long time Girl Scout leader. In 1996 she was honored as one of the Keystone Tall Tree Girl Scout Council's Women of Honor. She was a former board member of the St. Marys Ambulance Association, the Elk County Council on the Arts, the St. Marys Chamber of Commerce, St. Marys Recreation Board, and was a former member of the New Marienstadt Corp. She was a charter member of the Bells of St. Marys and she was still serving on the board of Oak Manor until the time of her death. She had volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at the St. Marys Parochial School and Elk County Catholic school cafeterias. She was a former member of the hospital auxiliary.
She is survived by a son, William J. Olson and his wife Jane of St. Marys; two grandchildren, Andy Olson of St. Marys and Dr. Justine Olson Pyter and her husband Billy Pyter of Chicago.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded ind each by a sister, Jane Leighty; and a brother, Monsignor Joseph L. Weidmann. She was the last member of her immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Pauline W. Olson will be celebrated in the St. Mary's Church on Thursday, June 27 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson, OSB, pastor, and Rev. Paul Robine as con-celebrants.
Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 26 from 5-8 p.m.
