Paul J. Grieggs, 77, of 232 Monterey Ave., Ridgway, died unexpectedly on Sunday evening, July 13, 2014.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1936 in St. Marys, a son of the late Thomas and Anna Francis Grieggs.
On May 9, 1958 in St. Leo Church, he married Inez Magrini Grieggs, who survives.
Paul was a lifelong resident of the area, and a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1954. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Keystone Carbon Company after more than 35 years of service. He was a member of the Elks and enjoyed gardening and sitting on his porch swing.
In addition to his wife of more than 56 years, Inez Magrini Grieggs, he is survived by a daughter; Rena, Mrs. Jim Urmann, of Ridgway, a son; Paul Grieggs and his wife Theresa, of Indiana, Pa.; six grandchildren, Andrew (Tia) Urmann, Paul Urmann, Billy Urmann, Bobby Urmann, Sam Grieggs and Elizabeth Grieggs. He is also survived by three sisters, Rose Grieggs of St. Marys, Joan (Dr. David) Burkson of Chicago, and Ruth (David) Burkett; and by three brothers, Joseph (Rose) Grieggs of Harrisburg, David (Peggy) Grieggs of St. Marys, and William (Joan Marie) Grieggs of LaPlace, La., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, James and Robert Grieggs; and by a sister, Mary Dixon.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Paul J. Grieggs will be celebrated on Thursday, July 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Leo Church in Ridgway with Fr. Brian Vossler as celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Leo Cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted by the Ridgway Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, 136 Center St., Ridgway on Wednesday evening, July 16 from 5-8 p.m.
