JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg Borough Police Chief Bryan Parana reported on a string of arsons that have recently plagued the area during Monday afternoon's borough council meeting.
"We have had several arsons in the area and we have done, I believe, a very good job," Parana said. "We have questioned several people of interest in those particular offenses and we are working diligently into the conclusion of that investigation."
The most recent arson was a small fire that reportedly originated in the basement of an unoccupied house at 236 Main St. in Johnsonburg on early Saturday morning on Aug. 25.
The fire damaged the abandoned residential structure and was ruled an arson by State Police Fire Marshal Greg Agosti. Damage was minimal and no injuries were reported.
Three days prior to the Aug. 25 incident, another fire at 208 Church St. in Johnsonburg destroyed a single-stall garage, four residential structures and a vehicle. The residence of 208 Church St., owned by Albert Lee Abplanalp, sustained the most damage, as the fire originated in a detached single-stall garage at the property and spread to the main residence situated several feet away.
