Pamela J. Cousins, 50, of Spring Run Road, Weedville, died Saturday April 21, 2012 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born February 21, 1962 in DuBois, daughter of James and Bonita (Foster) Cousins, who survive in Weedville.
Pam was a long-time member of the Pennsylvania Children and Youth Administrator (PCYA). She was 1st Vice President of this Board. She co-chaired the Legislation and Fiscal Impact Committee and represented Children and Youth on a number of statewide committees. In 1998, she received the Distinguished Service Award from PCYA. In 2004, she received the Outstanding Community Service Award from the Elk County Family Resource Network. In May of 2006, Pam received from the Elk County Commissioners, a proclamation recognizing her for her excellent work as Director of Children and Youth and also for attaining her Master's Degree in Social Work.
She served in the past on the CAPSEA board. She was a past president of the Elk County Safety Committee and she still served on that committee. She was a member of the Criminal Justice Advisory Board. She was also a member of the Elk County Gas Task Force. She was also a member of the Elk County Family Resource Network and a board member of Systems of Care.
Pam was a champion for children in Elk County as well as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She was instrumental in supporting and beginning the Family Group Decision Making process that has been so beneficial to the families and children of Elk County. Her activities were geocaching, hunting, fishing, mountain biking, hiking and kayaking. She lived all her life in Bennetts Valley.
She is survived by her parents, two sisters, Jackie (Jay) Anderson of Penfield and Robin (Cliff) Cessna of Penfield; three nieces and nephews, Bradley Anderson, Danielle and Cory Cessna.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
The family will be receiving friends at the Weedville Wesleyan Church on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 9 to 11 a.m. with a funeral service to commence at 11 a.m. at the Weedville Wesleyan Church in Weedville with the Rev. Timothy Rogers officiating. Interment is at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Weedville.
There will be no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Guardian Angel Center, Main Street, Ridgway, PA 15853.
