Pair of Rams golfers advance to regionals
BRADFORD – Despite the cold and wet weather over the weekend, the District 9 Boys Golf Championship was held at Pine Acres Country Club in Bradford on Saturday. Six area golfers qualified for the PIAA Western Regional Tournament, which will be held at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The top qualifier for the Western Regional was Bradford's Josh Stauffer, who shot 72-79-151. Port Allegany's Maximilano Almonacid was second with 79-77-156. Tied for third were Clearfield's Justin Gaylor and Johnsonburg's Calvin Christoff. Gaylor shot 75-87-162 while Christoff had 77-85-162. Tied for fifth were Johnsonburg's Cameron Grumley, with 82-81-163, and Clarion-Limestone's Billy Kelley, 79-84-163. Finishing seventh and missing the cut was Bradford's Seth Mollander, 83-81-164. Eighth was Punxsutawney's Ian Miller with 79-86-165. There was a three-way tie for ninth between Karns City's Tucker Preston, Forest's Mitch Obenrader and Venango Catholic's Matt Kuhn, who shot 79-90-169, 80-89-169, and 84-85-169, respectively. Finishing 12th was ECC's Elliott Struble with 82-88-170. There was a four-way tie for 13th between DuBois' Nate Crawford, Brookville's Jake Huggins, Austin's Kade Logue and Cameron County's Paul Etchepare, with respective rounds of 82-91-173, 83-90-173, 85-88-173 and 85-88-173. Finishing 17th was Smethport's Tyler Woodard with 81-93-174, and 18th was Johnsonburg's Luke Shreffler with 85-92-177.
