Owners Steve and Miranda Putt grew up in Bedford County and later moved to Colorado where they owned and operated a similar outfitter store; they ultimately moved back to Pennsylvania to be closer to family and friends.
Country Squirrel Outfitters is a one-stop shop for all of your recreational gear needs; offering a large variety of camping, hiking, backpacking, cross country, fishing, hunting, running, disc golf, geocaching, snowboarding, rock climbing and winter sports equipment.
CSO also offers gear rentals. Mountain, tandem and comfort bikes are available for rent as well as snowshoes and cross country skis for the winter.
Having owned their store in Colorado, Steve and Miranda were able to transfer their equipment lines and brands including Cannondale, Mammut, Sierra Designs, Kelty and many others.
Being located in the heart of Ridgway alongside the Clarion River and the 18-mile Clarion/Little Toby trail makes the perfect setting for an outfitter store.
A grand opening celebration will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15. Activities will start at 9 a.m. with free coffee and pastries. Stop by and sign up for a free class like introduction to kayaking to learn the basics or take introduction to rock climbing where you can learn how to fit a harness, tie ropes as well as learn proper safety techniques. Many other classes are available.
Free hot dogs, snacks and soda will be available from noon-1 p.m. Also check out the bargain bin outside on the patio.
