JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Municipal Authority recently adopted a drought contingency plan requested by Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] officials.
Authority members voted unanimously in favor of adopting the drought plan as drawn up by Uni-Tec Consulting Engineers Inc. for the water agreement with the Hunt Marcellus Operating Company.
Chairman Eric Poague discussed the criteria for the various trigger points to be used by Authority officials in identifying the various onset of drought response levels in the system.
"DEP [officials] requested we come up with a drought situation plan out at the dam in Silver Creek and the one out at Powers Run," said authority member Ed Gapinski during the Johnsonburg Borough Council meeting. "If the water in Silver Creek reaches two feet, one inch below the dam wall, we no longer will sell to them. If the water reaches two feet, two inches below the wall at Powers Run we will not sell the water."
