Low election turnout in Elk County

May 21, 2014

With GOP candidates a mere formality running unopposed, only 20 percent of Elk County's Republicans turned out for Tuesday's primary election while 22.3 percent of the county's Democrats headed to the polls.
Shortly after 9 p.m., the Associated Press declared businessman Tom Wolf the winner of the Democratic nod for governor. He will run against incumbent Tom Corbett who earned 927 votes in Elk County. There were 198 write-in votes. There also were 232 votes for Robert Guzzardi which will not be counted as the state Supreme Court ruled him ineligible due to his missing a filing deadline.
