Leslie J. Haas

Leslie J. Haas, 64, of 475 Lance Dr., Ridgway, died unexpectedly in Ridgway Township on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012.
He was born Sept. 12, 1947 in Allentown, a son of Marlowe Arner Haas of Emporium and the late James Haas.
On Aug. 17, 1969 in Williamsburg, Va., he married Janet Hutchens Haas, who survives.
Mr. Haas graduated from Council Rock High School in Newtown in the Class of 1965 and from Paul Smith College in 1968 with a degree in forestry. He served with the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971 as a military policeman. He worked for Lower Makefield Township as a policeman from 1972 to 1984. He then moved to Elk County in March 1984 to work as a Waterway Conservation Officer for the PA Fish and Boat Commission. He retired in 2004.
He was a regular attendee of the CMA Church of Emporium. He was an endowment member of the NRA and a member of the Pa. Federation of Sportsman, Elk Co. Conservation District, Paul Smith's alumni group, BASS, Buckmaster Whitetail Deer Hunting Association, National Trapper's Association, and Christian Sportsman Fellowship.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Christopher Haas and his wife Delores of Sinnemahoning and Seth Haas and his wife Alycia of Rock Hill, S.C.; a daughter, Rebecca Peters and her husband George of Emporium; five grandchildren, Anna, Jed, Katrina, Nick and Brianna; a brother, Nelson Haas and his wife Rose of Emporium; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Haas, who died Aug. 26, 2006.
A Celebration of Life for Leslie J. Haas will be held at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Sizerville Road, Emporium on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at noon with the Rev. Mark Conklin, pastor, and Pastor Chris Haas of the Down County Baptist Church officiating. A military service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.
The family will receive friends at church one hour prior to the service.
