Leo W. Biel

Leo W. Biel, 90, of 5861 Glen Hazel Rd., Wilcox, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 10, 2013, at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a short illness.
He was born April 11, 1923 in Portage, son of the late John and Anna Biel Biel.
He married Doris Rosa Hamilton on Sept. 20, 1947 in Brockway, and she preceded him in death on March 12, 2003.
He resided in Wilcox all his life and attended Wilcox schools. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Rasselas.
He was a WWII Army veteran serving overseas in the Rome-Arno Campaign as a PFC where he was a light truck driver with the 300th Hospital Unit and received the Distinguished Unit Badge, EAME Theater Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the American Theater Service Medal and the Victory Medal.
He was employed by Penntech Papers Inc. of Johnsonburg for 40-plus years, retiring in 1975.
He is survived by three sons, Michael Biel of Wilcox, Joseph Biel of Ft. Myers, Fla., and DuWayne Biel and his wife Sherry of Wilcox; nine grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Francis Biel and his wife Marie of Johnsonburg,
Tom Biel and his wife Shirley of Wilcox, and Andy Biel of Johnsonburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lawanda Neff; and three brothers, Vincent, Walter and Michael Biel.
A Funeral Service for Leo W. Biel will be conducted at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. David J. Wilson, Pastor of Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg.
Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Ridgway.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.
