JOHNSONBURG – Kane senior Kaila Jamerson wouldn't let the Lady Wolves lose to the Ramettes Monday night.
A series of six straight points by Jamerson would propel the Lady Wolves first into double overtime and then to a lead Kane would not relinquish as the Lady Wolves won 42-37 in double overtime over Johnsonburg Monday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Jamerson led all scorers with 15 points for Kane, two points shy of tying Bree Bergman's school record of 1,085 career points.
"It was too much Jamerson. Brittany (Watts) had four fouls so she had to be careful," Johnsonburg coach Mike Zilkofski said. "They fed it into her and she took it to the basket. It was too much Jamerson and not enough foul shots for us."
At the end of the first 4-minute overtime period, a Kathryn Polaski free throw put Johnsonburg ahead 34-32 with 22 seconds left. Kane would get a shot which was missed from just inside the 3-point line. Jamerson would grab the offensive rebound and score a layup with seven seconds left to tie the game at 34-all. A last-ditch effort from near midcourt fell short and the teams would move to the second overtime period.
Jamerson scored twice in the first minute of the second overtime to give the Lady Wolves a 38-34 lead. Brittany Watts would add a free throw at the 2:58 mark to cut the margin to three and then scored another field goal on a second-chance opportunity to push the Ramettes within one at 38-37 with 2:25 left.
