Lady Elkers shut out ECC
ST. MARYS — The Ridgway Lady Elkers got a goal early in both halves of Thursday's girls' varsity soccer game at Benzinger Park in shutting out the home-standing Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders 2-0.The Lady Crusaders have now failed to score in any five of their home games this season-- a total of 400 minutes of soccer. In yesterday's contest, the Lady Crusaders managed just four shots at goal against Ridgway. The Lady Elkers finished with 13 shots and a four-to-none advantage in corners.Ridgway tallied first at 7:04 into the game when senior Abbie Lampman scored. The Lady Elkers' second goal came just 3:06 after halftime and was scored by junior Angela DeAngelo.The Lady Crusaders, however, were unable to sustain any type of scoring pressure except for a rolling shot that went inches wide to the left."Sure it's frustrating," Fabiano said about the scoring drought. "The players are truly frustrated and now comes the lesson about working even harder when things are going against you."ECC, now 4-6, is home Saturday with a 10 a.m. start against Punxsutawney.Ridgway (8-1) will play at Brockway for a 5 p.m. game Monday.
